Sir Thomas Abney Primary School

Our Vision

At Sir Thomas Abney, we provide an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that prepares children for life in the modern world. It provides opportunities for children to develop their qualities to become independent, confident, reflective, creative learners with a thirst for knowledge.

The joy of discovery sits at the heart of the curriculum; the children are encouraged to be curious and learn more about themselves, their community and the wider world. Our curriculum is designed so that children will become successful lifelong learners. We do this by giving children the opportunity to be critical thinkers, to solve problems, to be resilient and to collaborate with others.

The core skills of speaking and listening, reading, writing and mathematics are rigorously driven and woven throughout the curriculum subjects; links are made and learning is revisited and built upon. Our approach focuses on each child as a whole; we support each child’s wellbeing, mental health and physical development ensuring each child is well prepared for life.

The goals of the curriculum are to develop each child’s self-belief and sense of what it means to be a global citizen, to be empathetic towards others, to be compassionate, to be respectful and responsible for their actions.

We celebrate the individual child, celebrating differences and diversity. We welcome community involvement as a way of sharing experiences and celebrating unity. Each child at Sir Thomas Abney enjoys coming to school – a place where they can embrace new challenges and possibilities, push their own boundaries, and thrive.
